Fruit & Vegetables in Schools

Fruit in Schools – Quotes from schools in 2021

“We absolutely think Fruit in Schools has an impact, many children have no fruit in their lunch, some children do not have enough food and others may get to try fruit that they have not eaten before.

Many children are able to concentrate more as they are not hungry. We have a few families in need that we give any leftover fruit to, they are always very grateful, this has an impact on their well being. We are a Garden to Table school and sometimes we are able to use fruit in some recipes, children are then able to see how the fruit is able to be used in different ways, and in different cultures. We feel very lucky to be able to be included in Fruit in Schools.”

Owairaka District School, Auckland

“Thank you so much for providing our school with fruit. Our tamariki look forward to having it in class each day. We have fruit monitors who distribute it each day, this gives them leadership and responsibility duties which they are proud to display. We truly appreciate the supply we receive at Strathmore School.”

Strathmore School, Waikato

“Our fruit and vegetable delivery is still going really well. The delivery is always on time and a great mixture of fruit/vegetables for the season.”

Riccarton School, Canterbury

“The fruit is fresh and well kept to last for the week. We appreciate it as our children can eat the fruit throughout the whole day as teachers allow them to. Thank you for your consideration and care in delivering the fruit and vegetables delivered to our door.”

Cargill Open Plan School, Waikato

“We have found that even with the introduction of the lunch programme our students still seek and eat the fruit provided in the Fruit & Vegetables programme. We encourage this, as this only increases their 5+ A Day intake.”

Brandon Intermediate, Wellington

“Our children absolutely love the Fruit in Schools programme and we really appreciate how fresh the fruit is and the variety that we receive.”
